He was subsequently asked if he would consider coming to Tblisi and giving a seminar on holistic and orthomolecular therapies.Dr Bate has been retired from active practice since 1992 and wanted to provide the latest knowledge so he contacted an old friend and colleague, who agreed to do it with him.
In Georgia, as in most of the former Soviet Union countries, there is very little money for drugs, accordingly, there is a great demand for holistic, orthomolecular, and other alternate therapies.
On the third afternoon, Dr Von was talking and demonstrating the latest knowledge in biofeedback, and he talked at length about the simplicity and effectiveness of the Sterman method for ADD/ADHD, depression, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, etc.
This was new knowledge to Dr Bate, and when they returned to their hotel suite, Dr Bate questioned Dr Von extensively, and finally said "If it's that simple to do this training, why not buy the biofeedback units and lease them out". Dr Von was hesitant, but agreed to look into it with Dr Bate.
At this same conversation, Dr Bate theorized that perhaps the raising of the 12-14 Hz (SMR) brain wave somehow changed the affect of allergens on the brain. Both Dr Bate and Dr Von have studied allergy/sensitivity extensively, and both were aware that all the so-called "brain problems" can (and often are) be caused by unknown allergens.
After a few months of surveying what was available on the market at what price and efficiency, Dr Bate formed a corporation - "Biofeedback Home Training Inc" - (BHT). Dr Bate maxed out his credit cards, and bought the first 10 units in December 2000.
The company was a success, and did make available EEG Biofeedback units at an overall cost of about 20 -30% of the cost of clinical training. However, the initial deposit was close to $2000, and that amount still meant that low and even mid income families still had no choice except the dangerous drugs such as Ritalin etc.
As the field evolved, Dr Bate tested many different units, and in 2003 settled on the Play Attention unit as the best for home use in several ways.
In 2004, Dr Bate suddenly realized that it might be possible to change brain waves by subliminal messaging. His first two experiments, using paying volunteers showed that this system worked. It also proved his original theory that raising SMR DOES change the brain affect of allergens!
In 2005, Dr Bate designed another test for ADD/ADHD. This test not only raised the SMR brain Wave, but also lowered the Theta Brain Wave. NASA studies had shown that lowering Theta increased attention/concentration in jet pilots and astronauts. For Attention Deficiency it is a necessary adjunct.
That test was completed in March of 2006. Results were excellent with all but one person showing improvement. It also showed that success from this system is very similar to those with EEG Biofeedback (AKA neurofeedback). This new system is named Neuroliminal Brain Wave Training. Dr Bate has a Patent Pending on this system. It is quite different from the "usual" subliminal messaging. Instead of attempting to modify behavior, this neuroliminal messaging actually changes the amplitude of brain waves which is exactly what EEG BF/neurofeedback does!
Dr Bate discontinued leasing/selling of EEG Biofeedback units, as this newer system is only a fraction of the cost, and has a similar success rate in addition to being much simpler with no motivation required. Just play a CD every night while you sleep!
